Learner Charter

We aim to provide an outstanding learning experience to all of our learners. The purpose of this charter is to ensure learners are aware of what they can expect from us before and after their learning experience with us so that they can fully realise the opportunities that we offer:

Before your learning experience with us, we will:

  • Provide accurate information in a variety of formats
  • Provide independent and confidential advice and guidance
  • Respond to enquiries made in person, by email, telephone in a timely manner
  • Respond to an application for a course in a timely manner
  • Work with you to identify any support needs you may have
  • Arrange for you to be supported during the admissions process

During your learning experience with us, we will:

  • Enrol you on an appropriate course
  • Carry out appropriate initial assessment of your needs and discuss these with you
  • Provide you with a timetable to help you to plan your activities
  • Provide an induction with sufficient information on your course such as learning venue(s), resources, IAG etc
  • Provide a Personal Tutor responsible for helping you to achieve your desired programme of study
  • Will keep and update an Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
  • Set performance goals for you based on previous experience/qualifications
  • Where appropriate, we will provide you with learning material on the Virtual Learning Environment
  • Provide tutorials to review your performance towards your goals
  • Provide high quality teaching and learning to meet your need and abilities
  • Ensure that teaching and learning is monitored in order to improve standards
  • Set appropriate assignments/assessments with deadlines that are fair and consistent
  • Mark and return annotated assignments/assessments within 15 working days
  • Provide quality feedback to help you improve your overall grade
  • Provide you with written reports on your progress
  • Provide you with opportunities to tell us your views of your course and your learning venue
  • Provide advice and support for your progression
  • Take your comments and complaints seriously and use these as an opportunity to improve the experience for all learners
  • Provide you with a right of appeal on assessment/grading

After you have completed your learning experience with us we will:

  • Evaluate your learning experience with us
  • Ask your next step your career development
  • Offer you support if it is within our delivery area
  • Sign post you to the right direction by providing advice and guidance on careers, job search OR progression to a higher level course whatever necessary for you to realise your potentials

lf you are a learner with learning difficulties or disabilities we will provide:

  • On request, course details and other learning resources in an adapted format that suits your need
  • An appointment for a specialist assessment of your individual learning needs and feedback from this assessment
  • Any reasonable adaptation to support in teaching and learning, equipment and materials we provide within our budgets allowance
  • Course assessments in adapted formats as appropriate
  • Make exam arrangements, if notified, in line with awarding body requirements

When you become one of our learners you agree to:

Accept and abide by the NextStep Training’s core Values, Acceptable Standards for Learning Environments, Codes of Conduct, Disciplinary Policy and Procedures

  • Attend punctually as required by your timetable
  • Maintain 100% attendance, making any routine appointments outside timetable sessions
  • Work to the best of your ability, meet deadlines for assessments and not cheat or deliberately copy another person’s work
  • Understand that the complaints and compliments policy provides an opportunity to report your experiences
  • Respect the learning venue’s tidiness by disposing of your litters in the bins provided
  • Smoke only in the designated smoking areas
  • Use the IT facilities in accordance with NextStep Training Ltd’s guidelines
  • Pay all fees owed as within the NextStep Training Ltd’s Fees Policy where appropriate
